A 55-year-old hypertensive man was rushed to the ER because of sudden onset right-sided weakness and slurring of speech. CT scan showed a large stroke on the left side of his brain, but since the patient was awake, medical treatment was continued. After 2 days, he became drowsy. Repeat CT scan showed that the large stroke was more distinct and pushing towards the other side of the brain.
The patient underwent surgery to remove the bone on the side of the stroke in order to relieve pressure on the brain. He improved after the surgery and was eventually discharged to home care.
